Being on the electoral roll is one of the quickest credit wins there is. Lenders use it to confirm your name and address and missing it can cost you points.
How to do it
- Step 1: Go to gov.uk/register-to-vote on your phone or laptop.
- Step 2: Have your National Insurance number ready (it is on payslips and HMRC letters). Fill in your name, address and date of birth. It takes about five minutes.
- Step 3: Wait for confirmation from your local council, usually within a few weeks. Then tick this step and update the electoral roll answer in your Ready Score numbers.
Good to know
- Moved recently? Register at your new address; the old one drops off.
- You can opt out of the open register (the version sold to marketing companies) without affecting lenders.
- Students and people with two addresses can register at both.
